The History of YTONG® ecological building materials

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) as it is called technically, is an ecological building material produced basically from sand, water, lime and cement. The technology was developed in the 1920s by Swedish architect Johan Axel Eriksson. Mr. Eriksson patented his invention in 1924.

Five years later, in 1929 YTONG® was licensed to and first manufactured by building materials producer Karl August Carlen, in the town of Yxhult, in Sweden.

The commercial name YTONG® was derived from the first letter of the name of the town Yxhult and the last four letters of the swedish word for concrete: betong.
